Wedding Flower Care Guide

Follow these simple steps to keep your blooms looking their best for your wedding day.

  • 1. Unpack Right Away

    • Take the flowers out of their wrapping as soon as you can.
    • Hold the flowers gently by their stems.
    • Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight and heat.

    2. Give Them a Fresh Drink

    • Fill clean buckets or vases with cool, fresh water for your flowers.
    • Take off any leaves that would end up below the water line.

    3. Trim the Stems

    • Use clean floral snips or sharp scissors to cut about half an inch to one inch from the bottom of each stem.
    • Cut the stems at a slight angle so the flowers can absorb water better. If you have woody branches, trim the stems by cutting upward along the stem.

    4. Store in a Cool Place

    • Place your flowers in the coolest room you have, ideally between 5 and 18 degrees Celsius.
    • Try not to store flowers in garages, since they can get hot during the day.
    • Keep flowers away from heaters, fireplaces, direct sunlight, and ripening fruit.

    5. Check Water Daily

    • Add fresh water whenever the level gets low.
    • If you need to store the flowers for more than a day, change the water and trim the stems again.

    6. Wedding Day

    • Put your arrangements together as close to the ceremony time as you can.
    • Keep your bouquets in water until it’s time for photos or the ceremony. Afterward, put them back in water to help them stay fresh.

    A Few Helpful Tips

    • Some flowers will naturally open over the next 24 to 48 hours. This is completely normal.
    • Small differences in color and bloom size are part of what makes fresh, seasonal flowers beautiful.
    • If a stem bends or a flower looks a bit tired, cut the stem again and put it in fresh, cool water.
